Torden gled over og ble borte
susende i tretoppene mot nord
atter var jeg ensom i det sorte
under hemmelige sørgeslør

Under meg lå mosefeldens skimmel
over gynget ragget fra en gren
det var hele høyden av min himmel
over jordiske og mørke sten

Svarte furustammer stod på sokler
av en grov granitt i fjellets røys
under mosen knaket det som knokler
i de svære steinene som lå løs

Videre gikk jeg, tung og trøtt i beina
og skimtet fra den svarte kløft
ett stort måseberg
som træra kom seg opp på med ett digert løft

Mellom gløtt av varden
gikk jeg drømmende fra tuft til tuft
over mine øyne og min panne
svingte seg stolt i den kongelige luft

Foran lå den fredelige vidde
sitrende i skygger og i grønt
månen stod på himmelen og tide
blussende, løyndomsfullt og skjønt

Over frosne myrer gikk jeg mot den
fanget av dens fare eventyr
til jeg midt i mørket satte foten
ned på skallen av et sunket dyr
